Downey High School Reviews

The teachers are great. They really get involved with the students and keep parents informed about their children's progress. The after school programs keep children busy. They also have enough staff to ensure that your child is safe. Administration is visible and approachable. This is our second child attending this school and both have excelled beyond our imagination.

I personally love Downey High School because of the good high educated and patient teachers we have, who are reasonable. Another thing is the enviorment at Downey feels much more safe, even though we have over 4,000 students especially for not being the only school in Downey it still feels safe and there aren't too many fights. Our student population has went up alot but the teachers motivate students to get involved in sports and clubs. DHS staff & teachers also prepares its students for college & what colleges they have in mind and also helps them figure out what they want to do in the future. So over all I think it is a well rounded school. (:

DHS provides an outstanding A.P./Honors program. The A.P./Honors courses are incredibly rigorous and is perfect for a student who enjoys a challenge. As a student currently enrolled at DHS and in the A.P./Honors program, it HAS been a challenge. DHS has sent some of their former students to great UCs like Cal Berkley, UCLA, etc. The only issue DHS has is the overcrowding. DHS is approaching 4,000 students this school year. We have a pretty big campus, but it is not big enough for the amount of students it accomodates. The construction also makes it diffiuclt to get from one class to another without being engulfed in a pool of students. DHS has two new buildings that have an auditorium and advanced chemistry labs that provide its students with great hands on experience. DHS is overall a great school.

downey high school is a very outstanding school in a way. it would be great if the counselors there would actually take the time to cooperate with any parents and students that are in need of help.

A very great small city high school in the United States where maximum student-parent-teacher involvement is a must for outstanding high quality education. Music (team band, drum line) sports (football, swimming, tennis, hockey, baseball, etc)and other extra curricular activities after school is available according to your students interests and likes. Great School indeed!

Downey High seems very chaotic.

Downey is a great school. It provides students with a very nice working environment and a friendly staff. It offers a lot of different courses including honors and A.P. for the students who like to challenge themselves. Althought it isn't absolutely perfect, I would recommend it

I have three chilren. Two have already graduated fro DHS and the youngest is currently a sophomore. The schools instructors are outstanding. The school provided a diverse curriculum which articulated with the UC system and therfore qualified our tow oldest with the classes they needed to be accepted into the college of their choice. In addition the school offered a comprehensive athletic and atrs program. Ther leadership insured a safe environment, which allowed teachers to teach and kids to learn. Overall a great experience.

Downey High School is a decent school. There have been instances where there have been social issues involving students but that is true in almost any school. In my experience, parents need to be more involved and work hand in hand with the teachers and counselors to raise the goals and achievements of the students. Most of the counselors are great but like anything you as the parent have to stay on top of things. Dress code could be enforced a little more.

ACademic programs are great. The sports are the best in the country. Parent involvement is modest.

This is a good school. The only problem is administration singles out who they think is good and helps them with everything and leaves behind everyone else.

Downey can be considered a very middle-of-the road school. They do not rank as high as some schools, but they do not rank as low as others. The state testing is always average. Reasoning for Downey being average may have to do with the fact that the school is approaching 4000 students. The school does on a constant basis produce students that go to very well-known universities, as I now attend USC. The teachers care about the students, but overall the school is simple overcrowded and the school really can not do anything about it.

I am appalled at the high volume of violence, drugs and alchohol at this school. Driving students to and from school provides me with a lot of listening time! In this day and age I strongly believe that there should be such a higher degree of security at this school. I am greatly disappointed in these two areas especially: violence and such wide spread drug and alcohol! Right on campus! It saddens me tremendously and I hope that great improvement takes place. I feel that improvement in teacher/student relationships is greatly needed as well.
